TICKET USAGE**
HIGH SCHOOL PUBLICATIONS: to attend and review and/or use
as prizing. We are aware its taking place after school lets
out, but it could make a great back-to-school/what I did on
my summer vacation for the first issue of your paper when school
resumes in the fall.
STUDENT COUNCILS: we can give
you a pair of tickets to use as prizing as you deem best. IDEAS:
This could be as a raffle item to raise money for your organization
or a school activity, as a prize drawing at a school event/pep
assembly, or as a prize to award student achievement. Or come
up with your own thing! .
TV/RADIO: a pair of these tickets make for a great
on-air giveaway &/or raffle item!
***ARTISTS
IN BRIEF***
THE
ROOTS: Formed at the Philadelphia HS for the Creative
Arts in the late ‘80’s, the Philadelphia group showed
the way for live rap by focusing on live instrumentation at
their concerts and in the studio; The Roots' live shows are
among the best in the business. They are famed for a having
a jazzy, eclectic approach to hip-hop which includes live instrumentation.
Their debut album was released in 1993 and they have released
8 albums to date; the latest, RISING DOWN was released in APRIL
of ’08.They have collaborated with a wide range of artists
from different genres, including Roy Ayers,Jay-Z and Cody Chesnutt.
The Roots have garnered critical acclaim and influenced many
rap and R&B acts. WEBSITE: www.theroots.com.
GYM CLASS HEROES:
Melding elements of rap, rock, R&B, and funk into one cohesive
and melodic sound, upstate New York's Gym Class Heroes have
diverse appeal based on their impressive musical dexterity.
Often touring with indie rock and pop-punk bands, they don't
fit comfortably into one specific genre; the quartet's music
is rooted in traditional hip-hop, but features live instruments
instead of looped samples or beats. Lyrics are often socially
conscious, but also incorporate humor and wry perceptiveness.

ESTELLE: Able
to rap, sing, and write songs that have everyone from John Legend
to Roots Manuva singing her praises, U.K. MC Estelle got her start
in London's renowned hip-hop record store Deal Real. Her fellow
employees encouraged her to take a chance and get on the mike
on-stage; soon she was playing numerous London clubs. In 2007
U.S. R&B singer John Legend announced that Estelle would be
the first signee to his Homeschool label;. her sophomore album,
Shine, was released in April 2008. WEBSITE: www.estellemusic.com.
